Owned and operated by the Winslow Historical Society, the Old Trails Museum explores the history and cultures of Winslow, Arizona, and the surrounding area through exhibits and programs on topics that include:
The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway, ranching, and trading posts
Fred Harvey, the Harvey Girls, and La Posada Hotel
Route 66 and the Winslow-Lindbergh Regional Airport
Early Native American life and Mormon pioneer settlement
Town life, local families, and much more
The Old Trails Museum is located in the heart of Winslow's historic downtown business district and across the street from the Standin' on the Corner Park. Admission is free, photography is encouraged, and group tours, classroom visits, and research appointments are welcome with advance notice. There is free parking downtown, and the museum's exhibits are wheelchair accessible. The OTM Museum Store specializes in regional Navajo and Hopi arts and crafts, books on local and regional history, and our annual historical calendar featuring images of Winslow's history.
Housed in the 1921 First National Bank Building, the Old Trails Museum has retained the original marble-faced counters, mosaic tile floor, and vault, which provide a historic backdrop for its exhibits and collections. The museum's extensive collections include objects, documents, photographs, textiles, and oral histories donated by current and former Winslow residents. These collections allow the museum to create permanent and rotating exhibits and publications that authentically represent Winslow's diverse history.
The Winslow Historical Society, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, is funded primarily by the City of Winslow, with additional support from memberships, donations, and sales. The Old Trails Museum held its grand opening on July 8, 1989, as the Winslow branch of the Navajo County Historical Society. To better focus on their town's history, the Board of the Winslow branch incorporated independently as the Winslow Historical Society in 1997.
