Tempe
Descriptive
Date Established1871Websitehttps://www.tempe.gov/Description
The current town of Tempe was originally settled and known to many as Hayden’s Ferry, due to the fact that Charles Trumbull Hayden, had established a flour mill and a ferry to cross the Salt River. Darrell Duppa, who was also credited for naming Phoenix, mentioned that the area reminded him of a vale in Greece named Tempe.
